Calm is the world’s first mental health unicorn

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve raised $88 million dollars to invest in our mission of improving the health and happiness of the world.

This investment values the company at $1 billion USD, and Calm will be joining the ranks of just 312 other start-ups who have been valued at a billion dollars or more (a.k.a. unicorns). Making us not just any unicorn, but, the World’s First Mental Health Unicorn. While this is quite the honor you can count on us to stay humble and grow mindfully.

Our top priorities will be to expand into more languages internationally, grow our team (currently we’re a small but mighty company of 50 - want to join us!?) and create more content (that means more Sleep Stories, meditations, music, and Calm Masterclasses).

Calm helps users cope with some of the most important mental health issues of the modern age including anxiety, stress, and insomnia.

With over 40 million downloads worldwide and well over 1 million paying subscribers, we’ve received hundreds of thousands of heartwarming notes via email and social media about how Calm has changed people lives.

The Daily Calm, our 10-minute meditation guided by Tamara Levitt, has made meditation accessible and relatable while helping people cultivate a daily mindfulness practice.

One in four Americans has trouble sleeping and Calm’s Sleep Stories – soothing bedtime tales for adults – have surpassed more than 100 million listens, with original stories read by celebrities including Matthew McConaughey, Stephen Fry and Leona Lewis.

We’re excited to partner with TPG Growth who led this funding round with participation from Creative Artists Agency (CAA), and existing investors Insight Venture Partners and Sound Ventures. The round brings total funding to date to $116M. Check out the press release to learn more about today’s announcement.

Most importantly, thank you to our amazing users. Your stories bring inspiration and meaning to our work. We’re excited that this new funding allows us to bring Calm to millions of more people around the globe.
