Did you know that on average, we spend up to ⅓ of our lives at work? That’s more time with this “relationship” than any other in our lives. Yet, according to new research from Calm Business, work is now the top contributor to our mental health challenges–even trumping personal illness, relationships, and financial loss. In fact, over 50% of people in the U.S. struggle with anxiety, stress, or insomnia, with work being the primary driver.

At Calm, we believe that everyone deserves to feel good at work. And that starts with optimizing our 9-to-5 so it's less stressful and more satisfying.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re shining a light on mental health in the workplace and talking about how to solve for it. From examining work stress and burnout, we’re exploring the steps we can all take towards a healthier relationship with our work lives… and we’re kicking it off by taking a break!

Recent Calm research* shows that when employees take breaks, 49% feel less stressed, 49% say they have more energy, and 40% feel they are more productive. Yet, 2 in 3 workers rarely take breaks out of guilt (24%) or fear of looking unproductive (17%), and (56%) just feel too busy to take a break.

To challenge the stigma around taking breaks in favor of honoring our mental health, Calm Business is hosting the first-ever collective mental health work break around the globe on May 9th — BRB: The Working World Takes a Break.

In partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI), Thrive Global, Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and Accenture, Calm’s Chief Purpose Officer, Jay Shetty, will lead a guided meditation followed by a discussion moderated by SHRM’s SVP of Enterprise Solutions, George Rivera, on combating work stress and burnout.

The conversation will include some of the top leaders across the mental health and business sectors, including: Arianna Huffington (Founder and CEO, Thrive Global), Dr. Ken Duckworth (Chief Medical Officer, NAMI), and Dr. Tam Brownlee (Chief Health Officer, Accenture).

Tell your boss you’re taking a break and register below. Your mental health will thank you!

Together, let's make work, work better for all of us.
